MAP is our unique composite of Applied Kinesiology, and several of the new Mind Technologies (like the Emotional Freedom Technique or Energy Tapping) that utilize the body’s Electromagnetic system – where thought, energy and emotion overlap. MAP energetically unblocks the negative mental (beliefs) and emotional (feeling) “holding patterns” or “associations” in the mind allowing the body to de-stress itself and to return to its natural state of physical and emotional balance. This is the goal of Naturopathic Medicine also.
“The new Mind Technologies…are at the leading edge of a whole new approach to healing that combines elements of cognitive therapy with the latest thinking in everything from mind/body connection, to subtle energy theories, electromagnetism, polarity, neuropeptide chains, acupuncture and quantum physics. It is not necessary that you fully understand or believe in the theoretical foundation….the techniques will work whether you believe in them or not.” (Dr. P. Lambrou, Ph. D.)
The potential impact of the new Mind Technologies on the healing is great. The scientific study of the mind affecting the nervous and immune systems (Psychoneuroimmunology) has already proven that mental and emotional stress can suppress the immune system and contribute to the development of disease. MAP has the potential to assist healing because it facilitates the removal of these mental and emotional stresses and their impact on the body.
Stress is a reaction from the Subconscious Mind and is part of the “fight-or-flight” or fear response – the way the mind and body react to protect us from harm. Unfortunately for us, the Subconscious Mind initiates the stress response for real or imagined factors. It can’t tell the difference. In today’s world – with uncountable stress triggers – the stress response becomes chronic and the effect on the functions of our mind and body are potentially devastating. Under chronic unrelenting stress our bodies are subject to more rapid aging and disease.
The Subconscious Mind deals with “associations”. These associations may be harmless habits or may become automatic and compulsive, as in an addiction or Obsessive-Compulsive disorder. Just as the triggers of stress can become Subconsciously “associated” with physiological reactions in the body, so too can thoughts, emotions, feelings and beliefs (past and present) become associated with chronic physiological or pathological responses. This is the way in which our minds contribute to our disease process. Thought patterns (attitudes and beliefs), may be the result the Subconscious Mind acting automatically within an emotionally-created reaction loop or holding pattern – when an emotionally-charged event becomes an emotionally-charged memory. The emotionally-charged memory becomes bonded to a physiological stress response. The memory, the emotion associated with the event or the interpretation of the event (I could be hurt if…) can all trigger the physiological stress response.
The Subconscious Mind is not rational or logical. It may surprise you to learn that anxiety and depression are reactions to a real or perceived (illusionary) threat and are meant to be of benefit to you. To the anxious person, it doesn’t feel that way, however. Even more surprising are the subconscious beliefs that appear to be linked to the automatic creation of disease e.g., I need to be sick to feel loved. In this case, “feeling loved” is linked to being sick. Please understand that this is NOT a Conscious Mind decision. No one consciously wants to be sick. It is a Subconscious, and, therefore, irrationally-created association.
The only way that the Mind can be free of such associations is to break them apart and re-instruct the Subconscious Mind to more desired responses. The goal of the “Mind Therapies” and MAP is precisely this – to remove automatic associations that are physiologically active and potentially affecting the body and mind state of the individual.
